Preschool Reading:

Alphabet Puzzle

Today's Snack: Puzzle sandwiches are always fun to eat. Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. With a sharp knife, cut it in zigzag pieces. Suggest that your child use the crust border as a clue for putting the puzzle sandwich back together. Then eat! Drink a cold glass of milk, too.

--------------------

Supplies:

26 blank index cards - laminated when completed, if possible

Thick black marker

Here's a simple puzzle that children like. You can use several different colors of blank index cards if you'd like, to make it a little easier because it will be color coded.

To make one set:

Write a capital letter in the upper left-hand corner of a card, and write the corresponding lower-case letter in the lower right-hand corner of the same card.

Continue on through the alphabet with each letter.

Then cut the cards apart in a zigzag form so that each card has two halves that make a puzzle. Don't have the cuts be too complex. You can have curves, angles, whatever you would like.

If you can laminate these pieces and trim them, they will last a lot longer.

To play, simple mix up all the pieces and have the child put each card back together again, and lay them out in alphabet order on the desk or table.
