Reading: On Reading
Aloud
Book Selection
Today's
Snack: Select some green pepper strips and a cream cheese or sour cream dip
for a snack. Select some cranberry juice for color contrast, and great flavor.
Why? Because you're . . . selective.

Supplies:
A wide selection of
books from the library,
or purchased at garage
sales, handed down by relatives,
bought at used
bookstores, online, etc.
As earlier articles in this series
on reading aloud have made it clear, Jim Trelease is "The Man" on helping you
select good books for reading aloud to all ages.
You can check his exhaustive list in
his book, or this online treasury:

Or here's another article to help
you pick and choose just the right books for the ears (and minds and hearts)
that you love:

It's a great idea to gradually shift
the responsibility for selecting what books to read aloud from the adult to the
child or teen. So involve the "read-ees" at every phase, showing them how to
select books so that they'll be ready to choose what books they want to "hear,"
and participate fully in the read-aloud process.
